A video insert should have a clear editorial purpose
A second video can demonstrate a product, show a screen recording, provide context, hide a cut, or briefly replace the primary picture. The useful workflow makes its exact start, duration, source section, and audio behavior visible.
Keep the insert inside the existing editor so the creator can judge it against the primary footage and captions. A separate post-generation workspace makes timing harder to trust and encourages unnecessary renders.
- Choose the insertion point on the selected clip.
- Use library media, laptop upload, or a supported Drive import.
- Move, trim, replace, remove, or undo the insert.
- Preview the final picture, captions, and audio behavior together.
Choose the exact insertion point
Hover over the selected clip range and click the plus at the moment the supporting visual should appear. Use the spoken phrase or visible action as the first anchor.
The initial position remains editable, so prioritize a logical starting point over frame-perfect placement on the first attempt.
Choose Add video and select your footage
Open the insert menu and choose Add video. Select a ready asset from the library, upload a supported creator-owned file, or import a supported direct Drive file.
Preview or verify the chosen source before placing it. Check orientation, duration, embedded text, and whether you have the rights required for publication.
Place and trim the video on its own lane
The insert appears as a separate colored range beneath the primary clip. Drag it to change the start, trim its edges to change the visible duration, and adjust the source offset when the best part begins later in the uploaded file.
Replace the source without losing timing when the placement is correct but the footage is not. Remove or Undo when the experiment does not improve the clip.
Choose whether the inserted video should add audio
Keep the insert muted when it is a visual cutaway and the primary speaker should continue uninterrupted. Enable its audio only when the inserted sound is part of the story.
When both sources play, preview the mix carefully. Competing speech usually becomes unintelligible, so use one clear voice unless the overlap is intentional.
Preview the synchronized composition
Play through the transition into the insert, the middle of its source range, and the return to the primary video. Captions should remain visible above the inserted footage.
Check that the inserted orientation and crop make sense in the output frame. A landscape insert inside a vertical clip still needs a deliberate presentation.
Review, export, and verify the rendered insert
Approve the complete edit only after watching it. Submit the export, open the finished clip, and scrub to the inserted range.
Confirm that the intended source section appears for the intended duration, audio behavior matches the preview, and captions remain readable. Return to the editor for any timing or source change.
